What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive solution to remove stubborn fat cells. Cooling technology freezes and kills the cells without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue. Those cells are then safely eliminated by the body. CoolSculpting is often chosen over a more invasive procedure like liposuction, avoiding the need for anesthesia, incisions, or downtime.
Those who are struggling to remove stubborn fat with diet and exercise alone can benefit from CoolScultping. Treatment can be done in many different areas of the body including the abdomen, back, flanks, thighs, and upper arms. CoolSculpting is an effective option for those who are not ready or do not require, a more invasive contouring treatment like liposuction. CoolSculpting is not a solution for weight loss and should only be considered when patients are within their ideal weight range. Those who suffer from lax skin and excess tissue might not be successful CoolSculpting candidates.
The Coolsculpting procedure will not require any anesthesia or sedation. You will be seated or lying down while the CoolSculpting applicator is applied to the treatment area. A vacuum mechanism will then draw the stubborn fat cells closer the surface where controlled cooling is delivered. During this time, patients can expect an intense cooling sensation that should only last a few minutes before going numb. After that, the process is completely comfortable, and patients can relax and even read a book while their stubborn fat is treated. The entire treatment can last one to two hours depending on the size and number of treatment areas.
Recovery and Results
After CoolSculpting, most patients are able to return to all normal activities right away. Some swelling, redness, and bruising in the treated area are normal for a few days after CoolSculpting.
In the weeks following CoolSculpting, the body begins to eliminate the treated fat cells. Patients can expect about a 20% reduction of fat in the treated area. For some patients, one session is enough, however, most patients require multiple sessions for optimal results, depending on the area being treated. Once the stubborn fat is eliminated, it cannot return. However, CoolSculpting cannot prevent fat gain in untreated cells, so patients should continue a healthy diet and exercise to maintain their results.
