What is PRP?
PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatment involves taking the patients own blood and extracting the platelets and growth factors. Using a micro pen and microneedling, the PRP is distributed beneath the skin. This allows for the combined benefits of microneedling treatment with the nutrients provided by the patients own blood. PRP can also be utilized in:
- Hand Rejuvenation
- Stretch mark therapy
- Hair restoration
Patients can achieve smoother, healthier skin with fewer lines, wrinkles, sun spots, acne scarring, and other facial blemishes with the use of PRP for facial rejuvenation with microneedling. PRP treatment is an effective option for those who want to treat signs of aging that aren’t severe enough to require an invasive procedure. PRP can also be placed into the scalp for those who suffer from hair thinning or balding.
PRP will first be harvested from the patients own blood. The process is just like a routine blood drawing. The harvested blood is then processed in a centrifuge, separating the platelets from other components. For facial or hand rejuvenation, the microneedling process is used to create many small channels under the skin, where the PRP can be placed. The process typically takes about 60-90 minutes to complete.
Recovery and Results
After PRP treatment, patients might experience some redness, swelling, itching, and sensitively, but this should diminish over the next few hours. Through the placement of growth factors and the body’s own healing process, collagen production will begin to increase, resulting in stronger, healthier skin with fewer lines, wrinkles, and other blemishes. Patients can see improvements after one treatment session, but three sessions or more are usually recommended for optimal improvements.
